Kristin Wahlberg-Painter

Dr. Kristin Wahlberg-Painter is a psychiatrist in the Navy currently serving as the psychiatrist at Naval Special Warfare Group TWO in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She currently is the only psychiatrist in Naval Special Warfare caring for the special operators across Group TWO, Group FOUR, and Group EIGHT in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She also is a clinical supervisor for operational psychiatry for the psychiatry residency program at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth.

Dr. Wahlberg received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Tech in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise and was a graduate teaching assistant for Metabolic Nutrition and Nutrition Across the Lifespan. As part of her graduate program, she completed research in skeletal muscle metabolism and the effects of chronic inflammation on insulin signaling pathways. She completed her medical degree in Osteopathic Medicine at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine then went to Internal Medicine Internship at Walter Reed in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Wahlberg then completed training as a Naval Flight Surgeon and served as the medical department head at the Naval Reserve Center Washington D.C., as well as was the covering active duty flight surgeon for all of the squadrons under Naval Air Facility Washington. Dr. Wahlberg completed residency training in Psychiatry at Walter Reed in Bethesda, Maryland. She is a board certified general adult psychiatrist and is a member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). She has presented at the APA annual meeting twice on topics relating to nutritional psychiatry, including on nutritional interventions for cognition and traumatic brain injury. She previously served as the Resident Pysician, Psychiatry at the National Capital Consortium, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and as the Medical Department Head at the Navy Operation Support Center in Washington DC.
