Michael Sracic

Commander Michael K. Sracic was commissioned on 21 June 2004 upon graduation from Washington & Jefferson College prior to attending medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. In April 2008 he was selected to attend US Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was selected as the Officer Honor Graduate. Following promotion to Lieutenant and graduation from medical school in May 2008, he was competitively selected as a categorical orthopedic surgery intern at the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center, graduating in June 2009. Following completion of internship, he moved to Camp Pendleton, California where he served as the Battalion Surgeon for First Battalion, First Marines (1/1).

While stationed with the United States Marine Corps, LT Sracic completed live tissue training, trauma training at the Navy Trauma Training Center in Los Angeles, and the Cold Weather Mountain Medicine Course at the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California. He extended his tour in order to serve as the medical officer for Battalion Landing Team 1/1 with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit in direct support of combat operations in the Arabian Peninsula from February 2011 until September 2011. During his time with 1/1, LT Sracic successfully earned his Fleet-Marine-Force Officer Qualification and his gold parachute wings as a Navy/Marine Corps parachutist, completing jumps with First Recon Battalion.

In 2012 he began full-time out service training as a resident in Occupational & Environmental Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, where he concurrently earned a Master’s Degree in Environmental Toxicology. LCDR Sracic earned board-certification in Occupational & Environmental Medicine, and in 2016 he was selected as a Fellow of the American College of Occupational & Environmental Medicine. Following residency at UC Irvine, he served as the Department Head of Public Health and the Public Health Emergency Officer at the Naval Nuclear Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut.

LCDR Sracic completed the six-month Navy Diving/Undersea Medical Officer pipeline in 2016 and upon graduation was awarded the Surgeon General’s Award for Leadership. He was subsequently selected to serve as a Diving Medical Officer with Naval Special Warfare Group FOUR in Virginia Beach, VA. In 2018 he was fleeted-up to serve as the Group Surgeon for Naval Special Warfare Group FOUR. In 2019, CDR Sracic was selected to serve at the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group, where he served from June 2019 until July 2022. While serving at Naval Special Warfare Development Group, CDR Sracic deployed with a Tactical Development Squadron as a part of a Joint Special Operations Task Force in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of combat and contingency operations, as well as supporting multiple other operations around the world. From August 2022 until June 2023 CDR Sracic attended the United States Army War College in Carlisle, PA, where he was recognized as a “Superior Graduate,” completing the highest level of joint military professional education and earning a Master’s degree in Strategic Studies.

CDR Sracic currently serves as the Group Surgeon/Senior Medical Officer for Naval Special Warfare Group TWO in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he oversees tactical medicine/SEAL medic training, clinical primary care, sports medicine, mental health, and medical logistics and planning for SEAL Teams TWO, FOUR, EIGHT, and TEN as well as other supporting units.

CDR Sracic enjoys creating artwork both personally and professionally. He has illustrated several medical textbooks and publications as well as a forensic anthropology exhibit for the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. His military awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal (with combat “C”), and three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals as well as several other unit awards in addition to expert pistol and rifle qualifications. CDR Sracic is married to his wife, Francis, and they have seven children – Bella (11), Ava-Marie (9), Rosie (8), Matthew (6), Joseph (4), Joshua (3), and Miriam (newborn).
